Two charities, The Alcohol Education Trust and The Daniel Spargo Mabbs Foundation, are developing support for sixth formers to prepare them for leaving school and heading off to college, university or their first job/apprenticeship. To help us know what is important to include in this, we’d really appreciate it if you’d complete this brief questionnaire by Friday 19th October to tell us about your own experiences. Town and Gown 10k Run

On Sunday the 21st October, Muscular Dystrophy UK will be holding the much awaited Cambridge Town and Gown 10k run. The scenic route takes you through the heart of Cambridge passing many landmarks, historic University College buildings and along the River Cam. The event is fully organised by Muscular Dystrophy UK and the proceeds will go towards our cause of fighting muscle-wasting conditions by finding treatments, cures and campaigning for independent living for 70,000 children and adults.

Organ donation awareness event

I have received the most amazing gift from somebody I never met and never will… Her heart is beating inside me and will power the life ahead of me, from my smallest steps to my wildest dreams. Golpira Mirzazadeh suffered from a heart disease for 14 years, eventually being prevented from leading a normal life. She was given the gift of life when a stranger donated her heart, and now she is helping raise awareness about organ donation.

Cambridge Development Initiative: Volunteering Opportunity

Do you want to oversee an international charity whilst still at university? Cambridge Development Initiative (CDI) is a student-led development CIO whose work is based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. CDI works in collaboration with Kite Dar es Salaam, a parallel organisation made up of students from universities in Dar es Salaam. Each year, around 30 Cambridge students work with their Tanzanian counterparts on designing, implementing and managing development projects. CDI’s projects run throughout the year, during which time our student volunteers - both in the UK and in Tanzania - work to sustainably evaluate and develop the work we do, and look at new opportunities to expand our projects.

CHOP Reps

One thing that many people are struck by when they arrive in Cambridge is how prevalent homelessness is here. Cambridge Homeless Outreach Programme (CHOP) is a student society which works to provide students with opportunities to fundraise, volunteer and support the homeless community in the city. To participate in this challenge individuals, or group of individuals, need to find creative ways to solve probability problems and send those solutions to us. Following the success of the Freshers’ Intercollegiate Quiz a couple of weeks ago, we are delighted to announce preliminary registration for the regular Cambridge Intercollegiate Quiz Tournament for 2018–19. This is a buzzer tournament, for teams of up to four members, played on University Challenge-style questions and rules, beginning in Lent Term. There is no limit to the number of teams each college can field, but unlike the Freshers’ version, each team should be composed of students from one college.

The study involves two visits to Addenbrooke’s Hospital: one screening visit, lasting about 4 hours, and one overnight visit, lasting about 36 hours. At the screening, we will collect a blood sample, measure your body composition and ask you some questions about your health history.

The study involves consuming a 330ml glass of Appletiser®, and completing some questionnaires and other short tasks. CHaOS Winter Roadshow

Cambridge Hands-On Science needs you! Meet new people, get lots of free food and inspire children to enjoy science with fun, interactive experiments! CHaOS is looking for volunteers for our Winter Roadshow – a week of science outreach outreach events in and around Cambridge at the end of term. We need engineers, natscis, medics, compscis, mathmos, vets and more to demonstrate science experiments to children and members of the public, getting them enthusiastic about science. EPAfrica Volunteering

EPAfrica is recruiting committed students to spend 10 weeks in East Africa in summer 2019 investing time and money in one of our partner schools. Living and working in a rural community, our volunteers develop essential transferable skills whilst experiencing vibrant Kenyan or Ugandan culture. Working in teams of 2 or 3, volunteers collaborate with their school’s various stakeholders to improve the quality of education offered. Focusing on the sustainability of their interventions, they invest in new educational resources, small infrastructure projects and schemes to improve students’ health and welfare.

CHOP Reps

One thing that many people are struck by when they arrive in Cambridge is how prevalent homelessness is here. Cambridge Homeless Outreach Programme (CHOP) is a student society which works to provide students with opportunities to fundraise, volunteer and support the homeless community in the city. Volunteering with the Scouts

11th / 9th Cambridge is a local scout group based in Newnham, about 5–10 mins from Queen’s College, within easy walking or cycling distance. We’re an active group with five meetings a week Mondays–Thursdays (Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, and Explorers) and two to three camping trips a year. The aims of Scouting are to provide fun, challenge and adventure, which can result in you organising and taking part in a range of different activities from hikes, wide games and cooking over open fires, to making smoke bombs, go-karts, and learning circus skills.
