Vice Chancellor's Social Impact Awards

I’m getting in touch with an exciting opportunity: nominations for the Vice-Chancellor’s Social Impact Awards are now open! This year we’re excited to launch the very first Vice-Chancellor’s Social Impact Awards, run by Cambridge Hub, to celebrate the students who have shown exceptional achievement and commitment to social change. We’re looking for students who have shown ongoing commitment to a cause, inspired others to do the same, and made a real social impact.

Organ donation awareness event

I have received the most amazing gift from somebody I never met and never will… Her heart is beating inside me and will power the life ahead of me, from my smallest steps to my wildest dreams. Golpira Mirzazadeh suffered from a heart disease for 14 years, eventually being prevented from leading a normal life. She was given the gift of life when a stranger donated her heart, and now she is helping raise awareness about organ donation.

EPAfrica Volunteering

EPAfrica is recruiting committed students to spend 10 weeks in East Africa in summer 2019 investing time and money in one of our partner schools. Living and working in a rural community, our volunteers develop essential transferable skills whilst experiencing vibrant Kenyan or Ugandan culture. Working in teams of 2 or 3, volunteers collaborate with their school’s various stakeholders to improve the quality of education offered. Focusing on the sustainability of their interventions, they invest in new educational resources, small infrastructure projects and schemes to improve students’ health and welfare.

Cambridge Development Initiative: Volunteering Opportunity

Do you want to oversee an international charity whilst still at university? Cambridge Development Initiative (CDI) is a student-led development CIO whose work is based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. CDI works in collaboration with Kite Dar es Salaam, a parallel organisation made up of students from universities in Dar es Salaam. Each year, around 30 Cambridge students work with their Tanzanian counterparts on designing, implementing and managing development projects. CDI’s projects run throughout the year, during which time our student volunteers - both in the UK and in Tanzania - work to sustainably evaluate and develop the work we do, and look at new opportunities to expand our projects.

Sixth Form Support Survey

Two charities, The Alcohol Education Trust and The Daniel Spargo Mabbs Foundation, are developing support for sixth formers to prepare them for leaving school and heading off to college, university or their first job/apprenticeship. To help us know what is important to include in this, we’d really appreciate it if you’d complete this brief questionnaire by Friday 19th October to tell us about your own experiences. All responses are anonymous, but if you’d be happy to be more involved in our focus groups, then please enclose your email at the end of the questionnaire.

CHOP Reps

One thing that many people are struck by when they arrive in Cambridge is how prevalent homelessness is here. Cambridge Homeless Outreach Programme (CHOP) is a student society which works to provide students with opportunities to fundraise, volunteer and support the homeless community in the city. CHOP is recruiting college reps to promote events in each college and run their own mini events, such as collections and bake sales. If you’re interested please email yg321@cam.
